Windsor and Maidenhead weekly bin collections to return

WEEKLY bin collections will be returning mid-August, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) Council announced.

The council told residents via social media that food, household waste, and recycling bin pick-ups will return from fortnight to weekly collections.

Fortnightly garden waste collections for residents with subscriptions will continue.

A spokesperson from RBWM said they will share a specific date for when the service returns to residents when they know more.
Councillor Donna Stimson (Conservative: St Mary’s), lead member for environmental services and climate change, said: “After a discussion with our waste contractors, Serco, we have agreed that this change will take place in mid-August.

“There are still impacts on the service from coronavirus in terms of staffing and the amount of waste and recycling being collected, as residents are still home more of the time in many cases.

We will use the time to prepare for as smooth a change back to weekly collections as possible, and to communicate with residents about the changes to the service.
Frustrated residents have been pushing the council for weekly bin collections to return after the interim service was missing bin pick-ups.

The leader of RBWM, councillor Andrew Johnson (Conservative: Hurley and Walthams), announced on June 4 that weekly bin collections would return ‘as soon as possible’ following an online petition expressing fears that fortnight collections would become permanent.

Back in April, the council announced bin collections will switch to fortnight collections due to staff shortages at Serco due to ill health or needing to self-isolate during the public health crisis
